The following payment types are supported by the Stripe Reader M2 card reader:
- EMV chip cards – Insert the card to into the reader to read the EMV chip.
- Contactless cards and digital wallets – Tap the card or device to the reader.
- Magstripe cards – Swipe the magnetic stripe on the card through the underside of the reader.
What you'll need
- Reader: This is what you will present to the customer at the time of payment.
- USB-A to USB-C charging cable: This cable can be used to charge the reader directly or to keep the reader charged via the optional dock.
- NOTE: The USB port is only for charging and does not work for connecting the reader to a device – the reader must be connected to the CompleteDTC mobile app via Bluetooth.
Connect a card reader
Follow the steps below in the order shown to connect your reader.
- Charge the reader:Connect the charging cable to the reader and charge it for two hours before initial use. Please use the charging cable provided in the reader box.
- Press and release the power button once to see the reader's current charge status. The green LED lights on the reader indicate its battery status.
- ● ● ● ●: Full charge
- ● ● ● ○: 75% charge
- ● ● ○ ○: 50% charge
- ● ○ ○ ○: 25% charge
- ● ❂ ○ ○: (flashing) Charging
- We recommend recharging the reader at the end of each day.
- Press and release the power button once to see the reader's current charge status. The green LED lights on the reader indicate its battery status.
- Turn on the reader: Press and release the power button. The status LEDs turn on and the reader beeps twice. The reader waits five minutes for a Bluetooth connection before automatically shutting off.
- Pair with the CompleteDTC mobile app: Confirm that your device's Bluetooth and Location Services are turned on. Do not pair the reader using the device's Bluetooth settings menu; instead, pair it from within the CompleteDTC mobile app.
- Navigate to the Catalog screen.
- Tap the Accessories button at the top of the screen.
- Tap Connect Card Reader.
- The app displays instructions for finding the 6-digit Bluetooth passcode on the back of the reader. Tap Continue.
- The app begins scanning for readers. Hold the reader next to your device while it is scanning for readers.
- If prompted, allow the CompleteDTC mobile app to use Bluetooth. Bluetooth is required for connecting the reader to the device.
- If prompted, enter the 6-digit Bluetooth passcode on the back of the reader.
- Once the reader is found, tap Connect.
- If the reader requires an immediate software update, the update is automatically applied during the card reader connection process. The app displays information regarding the update progress. The connection process does not continue until the required update has been applied successfully.
- Please do not navigate away from the app while a card reader software update is in progress.
- Keep the reader in range and powered on until the update is complete.
- If prompted, allow the CompleteDTC mobile app to use your location while using the app. Location access is required in order to accept payments.
- Once the reader is connected, the status LEDs on top of the reader flash 4 times. The app displays the Card Reader Connected sheet, which can be dismissed.
- Confirm the reader is paired:While connected, the first status LED on the reader will flash at 5-second intervals.
- NOTE: The reader will stay connected to your device while in standby mode and automatically exits standby mode when you resume activity. Once the reader is connected it will automatically turn off after 10 hours of inactivity. To turn the reader off manually, press and hold the power button for four seconds. You do not need to turn off the reader to conserve power.
- You are now ready to collect a payment using the card reader.
NOTE: Credit card details can be entered manually if you do not have a card reader or if you are having trouble using your card reader.
